FAQ
Why only 85% organic?
Every bar of soap is made with a minimum of 85% organic ingredients. This is due to the nature of the chemistry of soap, as it is almost impossible to go much higher than that. Our soap is made using organic oils and keeping the soap's ingredients above 85% organic. A soap's raw ingredients are either organic or they're not, regardless of the definitions, and our soap manufacturer commits to using certified organic oils.
What makes a good bar soap?
A good bar soap balances bar hardness (durability), lather quality (both fluffiness and stability), and moisturizing ability. These different properties come from the different fatty acids that make up molecules of the organic vegetable oils used as the base of this herbal soap. Unfortunately, the fatty acids that are moisturizing are not those that contribute much to lather quality, and the ones that make great lather dry out your skin. Thus, a 'perfect' good bar soap is the result of carefully balancing the fatty acids to maximize the bar's hardness, the lather quality, and its moisturizing ability.
Is this an effective soap to use against the flu virus or coronavirus (COVID19)?
Most any soap is better than bleach or alcohol, which can dry out or irritate your skin. We recommend get up a nice lather and wash your hands for at least 15 seconds then rinse and dry. Some people like to sing "Happy Birthday" while they wash their hands.
How does your soap get all its soap colors?
All soap colors are sourced from plant ingredients. In most cases, herbs provide the color, though some essential oils also contribute color. Because the herbs used may vary from batch to batch based on our suppliers, the soap bars often exhibit slight variations in color. This is completely normal.
What are essential oils and fragrance oils?
This is one of the most common misrepresentations among natural products, especially for natural soap. Essential oils are pure plant extracts used for scenting or aromatherapy. Fragrance oils however, are synthetically made substitutes for essential oils. Many soaps, even those labeled "natural" contain fragrance oils. Often, a soap label will say "contains essential oils." However, such a label can be deceiving -- it's always important to check if it ALSO contains fragrance oils. Fragrance oils are problematic because, as synthetic compounds, they dry out your skin and irritate sensitive skin. All Red Oxx Organic Soaps, as purely herbal soaps, contain only true, plant-extract essential oils. If the ingredients includes the word "fragrance," "perfume," or "parfum," then it's synthetic and not-natural, even though its packaging may say it is a natural soap.
What does saponified mean?
Saponified is the past tense for Saponify. The word literally means to take oil or fat and make into soap. The chemistry involves hydrolyzing an ester by using an alkali. Soap can be made using a cold or hot process. Cold process is most common and involves mixing said oils or fats with a lye-water solution. Lye is the alkaline that breaks down the fats and hydrolizes (mixes and solidifies) them.
